I learned how to knit at the DIY Trunk Show in Chicago in 2004 . . . it changed my life! :) I love to knit as it is calms me and focuses my attention. I prefer to knit with the funkier yarns, and tend to stay away from your basic yarns.

Adventuresof JRsShop is the Etsy Artist this week. Her work is beautiful. I'm such a fan of the fingerless gloves...and these are cashmere!! She mentions in her profile that she learned her craft from her grandmother. Same here!! Love you, Granny!

This is a cozy little pair of cashmere handwarmers. They are hand crocheted in cashmere with a scalloped edge around the fingers and a ruffled trim along the cuff. Three functional buttons seal the deal. Hand dyed pure Mongolian cashmere.

After graduating from Boston University with a Pre-Med/Biology degree last spring, I immediately began knitting, weaving, and crocheting. After going broke from spending all of my money on cashmere yarn, I decided that I needed to make it my job to share my art with others. Thus, Adventures of... Jessica Rose was formed. A of JR is based in the heart of the historic, artistic and beautiful Woodstock, NY. A of JR was facilitated by my Nana, who taught me how to crochet and is a product of my lifelong fascination with culture, art, science, nature and all things good in the world.

By day, Allison Strine is a happy mixed media/collage artist whose exuberant creations have won awards and appeared in national arts magazines. At night she's a not-very-good cook, a wife to a right brained husband (or is it the left - the one that's all about math and none about art), and a tucker-inner of two glorious children.

This week's Etsy Artist is mizusugi. I chose this piece because it's so festive for the season. I admire mizusugi's work! Here is how this ornament was made:

This ornament is made with 5 yards of patterned ribbons, 5/8 inch in width (1.6 cm). The ribbon was first cut into 30 strips and then folded into small individual units. The last step is to stitch them together by hand.

The story of my ribbon balls goes way back to the old China, when a rich family wants to find a good husband for their girl, they would either ask a matchmaker to help out or have a "Ball Tossing" party. On the special day, the girl would stand on the balcony of her house and toss her handmade ribbon ball, decorated with her embroidery, to the crowd below. Of course, she knew who was her Mr. Right and the friends of hers would ensure Mr. Right caught her ball. The ribbon ball in the story is as big as a volleyball. Fear not. I made mine small so you can hang them in your car or trees. Every ball is different from each other and it takes about two to three days to complete just one.


I love making ball ornaments. I learned to sew the ball ornaments when I was 10, using drink straws. Now I make them with ribbons as well.Each ball ornament is composed of thirty units. I use either ribbons or plastic strips to fold the single unit first, and then stitch them together by hand. The ornament is not just great for holidays, but any special occasions during the year. For the past years, I have given these ball ornaments to my friends as gifts. Now I am making them for you and your friends.

Sock Monkeys Unite!!

Most of the monkeys in these pictures have been adopted... however, you can custom order one for someone you love... or for yourself!

You can choose the socks (almost any sock or children's tights work), whether or not you want felt or button eyes, (FYI - usually button eyes makes it a choking hazard for younger children) expression (smiling, sad, neutral) and an item on it's front if you'd like (i.e. heart, daisy, initial or word). Each one is lovingly given his/her own personality.
